Who: BlurryEyedBirdr
Where: Rusk County, Texas, USA
Bird list: see below
Report:
Twas the Day of the Solstice
Twas the day of the Solstice,
and all over the world
People were going out
to look for some birds.
The guys back at Birdstack
had made this request
so we all woke up early
and hurriedly dressed.
With Dave up in Dallas
and me further east.
We both bundled up
expecting a treat.
The cold on my nose
and the cold on my ears,
Made me exceedingly glad
I'm not north of here.
I stepped out the door
and what did I spy?
A 'V' of six cormorants
dotting the sky.
I hoped for a day
exceedingly rare
As the squeaks of a nuthatch
rang through the air.
Goldfinches visited the
feeders for seed,
along with one Titmouse
and one Chickadee
One Thrasher, one mocker
two sparrows... no, four.
I'm counting six cardinals
but I know that there's more.
And on down the road
by the creek and the slough;
A Blue-headed Vireo
and some Blue Jays, too.
I have to leave now
just one thing to say,
Happy Solstice to all
have a birdy day.
