American Herring Gull (Larus smithsonianus)

Date and Time: 22 February 2008, 09:30

Location: Backyard (Chester County, PA, United States)

Number observed: 20

Notes:

The weather was cold, with lots of snow and ice, but that did not deter a group of herring gulls. Although a common sight in supermarket parking lots, this is the first time I've seen them on our property. They repeatedly swooped in, landed on the pond for a drink and swim, and then flew off.
