Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus)

Date: November 2007

Location: Backyard (Chester County, PA, United States)

Number observed: 1

Notes:

We noticed that the birdfeeders outside the kitchen windows were nearly full and not seeing much traffic. Later we spotted this bird in a nearby tree. Sharp-shins are known for preying on small birds, often at feeders. Since this observation, whenever feeder activity stops we know there's a sharp-shin around.
