Notes:

Fantastic! First pair right by the road as we shuttled in. Saw 8-10 birds in all today -- three pairs and a few singles. I suppose the biggest surprise was the way the birds fed, hurrying forward and then freezing, one foot held up off the ground, to peer intently at the ground before plunging those bright orange bills into the dirt or flipping aside some leaves and coming up with a worm or some other invertebrate. They act a bit like huge American Robins! “Punk” hairstyle crests hang jauntily to one side most of the time, but males periodically raise the crests and charge their mates when they have wandered apart. Toenails orange. Rasping hiss quite unpleasant.
