Pheasant Coucal (Centropus phasianinus)

Location: Iowa Village, Bamu River (Iowa, Western, Papua New Guinea)

Notes:

huge, brown-black bird with some fine, pale, horizontal barring in folded wing, stout dark bill; looked ragged and disheveled, drooping wings when perched and showed splayed, untidy feathers in flight; one one occasion, observed creeping through tallish grass like a huge cat; "whooped" song descended and speeded up then rose, slowed down, and leveled off; sharp "chup" and other calls
