Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri)

Date: 3 April 2009

Location: Cedar Hill State Park (Dallas County, Texas, United States)

Number observed: 1

Notes:

Male perched atop a small tree. I got one amethyst flash when he turned his head just right. In my experience (including this one), it's hard to glimpse the purple band -- the entire gorget appears black even in decent light from many angles. (Cf. Ruby-throats which almost always show at least a gleam.)
