About me:

Hi, I'm one of the Birdstack developers.

I've been interested in birds as long as I can remember, and I've been a serious birder since high school.

I work for an international non-profit organization, so I travel quite a bit around the world.

Hard to say whether I have what it takes to crack the record.

But I'm happy so far with 250, and I figure 300 would be a pretty cool accomplishment.

I did make it through Hurricane Ike ok...thanks for asking. Not really something I'm ready to go through again anytime soon. The apartments I live in had minimal damage and I was very lucky to be without power for only 10 hours.

The nature park I work at suffered a good bit of damage. Mainly fallen trees and the creek flooded much of the park but, we're working hard to get it back to normal. I was finally able to go birding today and will be posting tomorrow.

Just wanted to say thanks for creating such a great website and again for asking how things are.

Hi, Thanks for noticing my day at Barnegat Lighthouse, NJ. Being at the edge of the sea in winter, particularly at the tip of this rocky jetty, always feels like a bit of true wilderness. Just me, the Lord, and two very hardy fishermen. By the way, I liked reading some of your sightings from the Phillipines, etc. Some kind of nuthatch at 'camp of the something or other'. I looked up that nuthatch and learned about its blue color and eyering. Similarly, enjoyed a few other of your sightings. Zebra Dove, for example. Just look at some birds randomly to learn a little. Thanks again.

Why doesn't Birdstack have a way to add pictures to the descriptions of birds - not in your own observations, but in the World Bird database? Is there any way that the site managers could set this up?

@ZBrokaw: We've had several requests to add photo capabilities (see a recent dicussion here: Suggested new feature) and hope to add this functionality sometime in 2009. Stay tuned!

Re: WW Dove

That was by far the most unlikely of the birds I found on the coast this week. They're fairly regular down in the south around Wilmington, but to have one as far north as the Outer Banks was surprising.
