It is easy, even for computer illiterates.
When you open your list (click on the list name, not on "Edit"), you have the choice to "Export", which is what you want to do.
You can export your list best as a csv file - which is short for "comma separated value" file, which most software can read. Follow the Birdstack instructions to download onto your computer. Open the file in Excel, which can easily turn this into a spreadsheet that can be edited/tidied up and re-ordered however you want. You will end up with a number of columns that Birdstack uses but you may not need (delete them).
Then print!
Hi Fregata and all;
I am still having a problem printing my reports in taxonomic order. My lists are set up in that order but when I print them, they come up in newest date order. I have tried sorting everything different ways but they always come out in date order. It would make them easier to work with in taxonomic order. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with sorting exported lists! I just deployed a change that will make your exported lists show up in the same order as you have them configured to sort. Let us know if you have any other problems with it.
Hi there again. Thanks for your earlier response to a new Birdstacker like myself. Now I have a new problem. I only have two lists: life list and a puerto rico trip list. The problem is that the birds on my trip list show up on my life list so that I get doubles of some species (two separate observations), whenever the two lists overlap in types of species. I want my life list to be in taxonomic order, which it is already. Just the problem with these doubles. What should I do? Thanks. Sincerely, JimMcConnell
Hi again Jim;
I find 2 lists in your LIST section, Life list and all observations. Each one has 469 entries. Your trip list to Puerto Rico contains 65 entries but this is not in your list section but in the trip section. Your life list will contain every species seen anywhere. For your Puerto Rico trip list (or any other list) there is a box on the right side just to the top of the list. Click on taxonomic order and then click change. I think newest date first is the default on all lists until it is changed. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have further problems. I'm certainly not the expert here but everyone else on Birdstack helped me a great deal when I had questions about my lists.

I just had a look at your life list and saw that, for example, American White Ibis is showing up twice. I believe this is problem you are referring to.
You need to edit your life list and make sure that the "First observation of each matching species (e.g., for year lists or province lists)." option is selected.
When you select that option, you can have any number of American White Ibis records, but only the first one will appear on your life list.
If you have selected "All matching observations," then it will indeed put all of the observations you've recorded in the list, whether or not each record represents a different species.
Thanks Barry and DRinger,
I tried clicking the box at upper right for my life list, the one that says something like 'earliest date', and then I clicked change. It worked to eliminate double white ibises and double other species so I guess that is good. Is that what DRinger means when you say "First observation of each matching species (e.g., for year lists or province lists)." . The only problem now is that I would prefer a life list that is in taxonomic order instead of in earliest date order, but still without the doubles. I looked at DRinger's life list and it seemed to be in taxonomic order but without doubles, triples, etc of same species. That was true even though you have many other lists. I still don't know how to get my list taxonomic but also only one observation per species on the life list. Thanks for any continued help. Sincerely, Jim McConnell
Oh wait. Now I've figured out what you meant by "First observation of each matching species (e.g., for year lists or province lists)." Now everything is working beautifully. Thanks. I think that solves it all. Thanks guys. My problem was that I had to click the 'edit list' button first to find the 'first observation of each species' selection. Thanks.

Is there an easy way for a computer illiterate to print lists from Birdstack?
