I've entered the birds from a number of trips and have at this point ignored locations. Some of my trips share the same locations and now I would like to produce a list of birds at a particular place. Can I get into my excel file and add a location column? Try to keep it simple cuz I'm not a computer guy. Thanks.
Locations cannot be associated with trips. Locations must be associated with observations.
The reason is that a "trip" could be anything -- sure, it could be a report from the local Audubon sanctuary, but it could also be somebody's highlights from six weeks in five African countries.
If you have already imported some records, you cannot reimport them with location data, unless you delete the existing records. (Well, you could, but you'd have duplicates.)
I mean when I enter birds individually from a trip, each time I have the opportunity to list a location. So if I had an xl file of the birds from a trip without a named loction then I could create a column for a location. Am I right?

Yes, that's right. Check the documentation on formatting input files, and create the column you need.
