&lt;p&gt;What program are you using to deal with your eBird data? Can you open it in Excel or something like that?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The first thing I would try is replacing all the X's (in the numbers column, not in the bird names!) with nothing. So do Edit &amp;gt; Find and Replace and just leave the "Replace With" box completely blank (no spaces or anything). Then, when you do a replace, it will clear out the number cells that have X's.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Birdstack treats a blank value the same way that eBird treats an X. We probably need to look at just accepting X's on import so you don't have to replace them like that.&lt;/p&gt;
